Adam was very concerned by the plans to build a new Urgent Treatment Centre at Darent Valley Hospital, which could have led to the closure of the walk-in services at Whitehorse Surgery and Fleet Health Campus. He recognised that travelling to Darent Valley would not have been a viable option for many residents and the buses cannot always be relied on in times of need (an issue he has raised on numerous occasions with Arriva).
Adam met with the Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley CCG in March 2019 and made his concerns about the proposals clear. In October 2019 he wrote to 34,000 of his constituents urging them to respond to the CCG’s consultation on this issue and make their views known. The response was overwhelming, with 80% of those who replied expressing a clear preference for the UTC to be based in Gravesend. Adam was delighted by the announcement in January 2020 that two Urgent Treatment Centres would be opened, one at Gravesend Hospital and one at Darent Valley, with an investment of £85m.
